TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My ultimate goal in teaching is to create an environment for my students where mistakes can be made.  As an artist and educator, I believe that art truly is an iterative “practice,” and that the greatest amount of growth comes from our mistakes. I always aim to create a classroom environment where my students can feel safe to express themselves, take risks, and trust that I can help them to build their skills and knowledge in art.
An important step toward building that trust with students is fostering a positive classroom community. Establishing mutual trust and respect between myself and between the students and their peers helps to build a positive, supportive community. Students should always be able to trust that I am committed to building them up and learning alongside.
